Day 16

Well we have had a very busy couple of days. On Wednesday I brought Aidan to school. There was terrible flash flooding. Most of the middle school kids weren't able to get there and and had to spend the day at an elementary school.
When Aidan got home from school he promptly grabbed an ice pack and sat down. Yet again after being at that same field as two weeks ago his leg is red and swollen. He saw the doctor yesterday who put him on a stronger antibiotic and he goes back to be rechecked today.

day 15- school update

Tons of rain today! The bottom of the driveway is completely flooded so I considered driving him to school but decided that since I was already soaking from rescuing the garbage can that was washing away that I would just carry him over the water and into the bus. Yesterday he had a soccer game that they won, again! I don't think his team last year even won a single game and this year is undefeated!
No school tomorrow.

****update****
the bus driver just brought him home because they are closing schools today. I really am very confused right now.  The school sent an email saying if you are at a bus stop to go inside and all kids currently on buses are safe.  It doesn't say school is cancelled.  Half the town's schools start an hour earlier than the middle school and Aidan's school so they are already there. So I have no idea what is going on right now.

***update again***
finally got through to the school and there is school today. Aidan is now in school (with a very big frown).

Day 13

Aidan had a great soccer game on Saturday. All the boys played well and the game resulted in a tie. He has a game tomorrow.

Day 12

Not much to say. Soccer practice yesterday was fun. The weather for tomorrow may or may not allow for a game tomorrow, so fingers crossed!

Day 11

Last night was back to school night and it was great. I was hoping to get to meet the gifted and talented teacher but she was unable to attend. Aidan's teachers this year are awesome! When I met his math teacher, on his desk was a math homework for me! All us parents were freaking out haha! The teacher said to make a mistake "on purpose wink wink" because the kids have to correct it so they would be able to catch the mistake. I'm sure I have more than one "on purpose" mistake haha.

Day 9

Supposed to have soccer practice today but I bet it's going to be cancelled. I forgot to mention yesterday that his soccer game Saturday was postponed because we didn't have enough players to field a whole team. It was weird not having a sport to do for 5 days since he didn't have gymnastics Wednesday or soccer Thursday.

Day 8

Sorry for being so late, this morning was crazy. Aidan was moving very slow so I said he could just take his time and I would drive him to school which gives him an extra 30 minutes. Well the next thing I knew he said he wanted to take the bus and I said you only have 2 minutes then! It ended up that the bus was 5 minutes late and as I was waving at the bus driver to wait he was rushing out the door, the last thing on my mind was a picture (for once haha!).
Anyway, today is the last time he needed a dose of his medicine at noon so i snapped a picture in the nurses office. He is holding out his hand to show how to drew smile faces on the tips of his fingers, what a goof ball!

Day 7

You can hardly see anything on his face now! Still slightly swollen around his eyes but the redness is almost completely gone!
It is freezing out today, they high is only supposed to be 65 today, it is currently only 49 degrees out! Soccer game tomorrow, luckily nice and early and cold cold so no bugs to bite him again!

Day 6

His pediatrician started him on steroids yesterday. When i got to his school yesterday to give him his antibiotic his face was much more swollen. Last night the swelling looked better than this. Hopefully it is because he was sleeping on that side and not because the steroids stopped working. The school nurse is going to call me and let me know how it looks when she gives him the antibiotic at noon today. He was very self conscious when he got home from school because everyone was asking him what was wrong. He was very happy that I kept him home from gymnastics.

Day 5

Yesterday was an eventful day.  In the morning I noticed what looked like a bug bite on Aidan's forehead but didn't think much of it.  When he got home from school his face was much more swollen and redder.  I put some cortisone cream on it and off we went to soccer practice.  After practice it looked much worse. It didn't bother him at all. I sent a picture of it to a doctor friend I work with who said it looked like an infection. I called his doctor who squeezed us in.  It's most likely a cellulitis from a bug bite so he wrote a prescription for an antibiotic with instructions to watch it closely.  I was up half the night with worry.  The swelling did spread a little more but the redness has gone a bit. I have to go to his school at lunch time to give him a dose and hopefully it will be looking better.

This is what it looked like last night, you can see the swelling by the dent in his skin from his glasses

Day 4

Another win at soccer last night! Aidan played great! Coach felt he was being even more aggressive than last game, I thought he looked exhausted haha. Now it's just a normal week the rest of the week. Soccer today, gymnastics tomorrow, soccer Thursday, soccer game Saturday.

Day 3

Aidan had a GREAT soccer game on Saturday! There are kids on his and other teams that I swear he only comes to the elbows! It is very hard to believe they are only two years older than him but these kids are big by 7th grade standards even. Aidan doesn't care, he is used to the big guys from lacrosse and just skates right by them. His coach was so impressed he didn't hardly want to take him him out of the game to rest. I heard a couple parents on the sidelines keep asking who was that number two because he was playing so well. After a few times I realized they were talking about Aidan! Being that this is a rec league there isn't any real coaching going on. The kids with any talent tend to go over to travel soccer where you get much better instruction. Who knows, maybe after this year I will let Aidan try out for travel team next year.
He has another game today after school, so it's one hour of gymnastics practice followed by soccer, just like Saturday.

Day 2

The rain stopped in the afternoon yesterday which gave the rivers some time to recede and most of the roads are open again.  We are lucky in that the rivers by us crest earlier than others. One county in New Jersey that is always being flooded by this one river isn't supposed to crest until today. All their schools were cancelled for today.  The latest storm was a tropical storm that caused a lot of damage to some amusement parks in Pennsylvania, one just looking almost beyond repair but I'm sure they are going to try.

As long as the town doesn't say otherwise his soccer coach is adding a practice today since they haven't practiced all week and the first game is tomorrow.  This is where it is hard with him in two sports at a time.  Tonight, as the exact same time, is the team spirit day for gymnastics.  Sure he will miss the games and whatnot which isn't that big of a deal but he will miss out on being in the team picture.  Aidan is just excited to find out what color his team is this year for soccer!

This weekend is my birthday as is a local craft fair so our plans for sunday include the craft fair and going out to dinner and not turning the TV on at all. It is bad enough that for the past 10 years all I hear when I tell people my birthday is 9/11 is "awwww that stinks" but since it is a big anniversary for it this year that is all that is on TV. I just don't enjoy being depressed on my birthday.

No school today

Sorry I forgot to post that there was no school today. It has been raining non stop and there is flooding all over. The rivers were still high from the hurricane. From what I'm hearing, we are not the only town to cancel due to flooding. A lot of roads in town are closed.

First day of fifth grade

Well, the time has come, he is finally a fifth grader. He is entering his last year of elementary school. It is supposed to rain all week which is not good for soccer.  I just hope it stops raining for his first game on saturday so it isn't cancelled.

He has gymnastics after school today so he doesn't really get to come home and relax.

FIFTH GRADE!

Aidan loves his new shoes, he says they are very bouncy.

Aidan is starting to wear a watch. This is a slap watch, the band is like the slap bracelets from when I was a kid.

Off he goes.  The bus was over 10 minutes late which makes no sense since he is the first kid picked up on the route. Aidan forgot his lunch box so when I brought it to the school the secretary just laughed and said "that's our boy!"

Goodbye summer

Well for us summer is over. Soccer is in full swing, first game is next Saturday and school starts next week. We still do not have cable, internet, or phone. Comcast says it will be another 24-48 hours but I have a feeling if I had called two days ago they would have said the same thing.

Aidan's soccer coach just loves him, calls him a little fire cracker. He is impressed he isn't afraid to get in there an go after the ball. Aidan is now in the age grouping of 5th-7th graders and the coaches say he is the most aggressive one out there. In fact a 7th grader already quit because he felt the practices were too tough. At today's practice Aidan got his first bee sting and he was very brave about it!
